BEER TYPE Dark Lager

Stallhagen Bock is a traditional beer for celebrations – aromatic and tasty with notes of dark malt, roasted nuts and caramel. It has a mild, round and balanced hoppy bitterness and a beautiful toffee-coloured head. A fine, festive brew to pair with the autumn and winter flavours.

Stallhagen Bock is available from October until Saint Knut’s Day.

The goat has an extensive history as a symbol for celebration and abundance for us here in Scandinavia. In the Old Norse faith, the chariot of Thor, the god of thunder, was pulled by two immortal billy goats which could be slaugthered and eaten every night only to come back to life every morning. The nanny goat Heidrun grazed on the world tree, Yggdrasil, and provided fallen Vikings with an endless supply of mead from her udder.

Our modern straw goat has its origin in the ancient magical last sheaf of the harvest year – Äringsneken – which was shaped and saved until the winter solstice celebration. The proud straw billy goat on Stallhagen Bock was painted by artist and Åland native Jonas Wilén.

The beer of the archipelago

Stallhagen is a microbrewery on Åland, in the middle of the archipelago between Sweden and Finland. As inhabitants of the archipelago, we are used to finding the means to provide for our own needs.

Beer, for example.
We really needed that.
